Howe on the Delrenas:
The Delrenas were formed by Brian James in 1958. they appeared
as Ray and The Delrenas and also had a girl singer Joan Molloy. I joined
the band in 1963 and replaced Brian Dean on drums. The group then consisted
of Brian James piano, John Withy base, Derek Green guitar, Terry Fisher
guitar and me (Ian Howe) on drums. The Delrenas were one of the first
groups to feature an organ and when Bob Wooler at the Cavern heard us
play Telstar he gave us 42 bookings and said he never even given the Beatles
that many bookings in advance.
We played all the usual places Iron Door Cavern etc. We
were offered a spell in Hamburg but as three of us (Derek Ian Terry) had
good jobs we decided not to go. So Brian & John went with Brian Dean
& another guitarist John Fallon. It was they who recorded three numbers
on the album "This is Merseybeat".
The Delrenas at Belle Vue 4th Feb. 63 (right) was:

Ian,
Derek & Terry formed The Motifs and played the Cavern Appearing with
The Hollies, and Alexis Korner's Blues band, also at the Cavern with the
Mike Berry and twice with Tom Jones in Southport. The Delerenas were on
the bill at the Litherland Town hall with the Beatles when they made a
suprise appearance on return from Hamburg (according to Jamo) and the
appeared with the Beatles on their last booking at the Cavern.
