Helping Sick and Disadvantaged Children |

‘Helping sick and disadvantaged children’ that’s what we state as part of ‘The Merseycats’ claim to helping children’s charities. I learnt 1st hand today exactly what that means, and it was quite a sobering experience. Bernie and I organised a Merseycats’ fundraiser on Friday 15th February at the Gild Hall, Formby and a cheque for £2000 was presented to one of the representatives of Sefton Children’s Trust . I delivered that cheque today and learnt exactly where that money will go. Members of Sefton Children’s Trust is an organisation that gives respite to children who have been victims of abuse, who perhaps have a parent who has been murdered or who have a parent who has a long term or terminal illness, or whose family is disadvantaged in whatever way, and, some of the Trust members also foster these children short term. They need £40k per annum to operate and the bulk of that money, £30k, is used in taking 108 children on holiday for one week – because of security etc it is necessary for them to have exclusive use of a holiday camp/activity centre - activities, accommodation, food, clothing, transport is provided. It is so easy to lose sight of ‘the end to our means’ but when you learn stories as I have today e.g. how a 20 month old baby suffering from sexual abuse, how sleeping bags on the holiday can only be used once as many children are suffering with scabies, lice, hepatitis ‘c’, HIV, it makes me personally want to do more, and it makes me appreciate even more that thank God I am still able to have a good time by singing and performing with an ace band and the icing on the cake is I can still help these children in some way. All I would like to say is…….. THANK YOU MERSEYCATS FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN HELPING THESE CHILDREN. Beryl Prescott |
