Message from Sue and John, Alex's parents:
"Sue and I would like to thank the members and committee
of the Merseycats organisation for their generosity, kindness and total
support they have given and offered us. We would like to thank you again
for the £1,000.00 donation which you surprised us with during the
Jam Night. We will be forever in your debt."
Alex's
parents have set up their own website all about this remarkable young
man.
www.walkingwithgiants.co.uk
"This site is dedicated to our son Alex who has Primordial Dwarfism.
We hope it will enlighten people about his condition and promote a positive
awareness in the United Kingdom and Europe, along with the other sites
dedicated to Primordial Dwarfism throughout the world.
Alex touches people in a remarkable way when they meet him for the first
time through his smile, eyes, outgoing persona and also what he has been
through; and what he will probably go through throughout his life........
Our son will walk with giants for the rest of his life but to us he is
a Titan, and already people stand in his shadow - his family being some
of them.
John & Sue - Alex's Dad & Mum"
On Thursday 12th April 2007, Merseycats invited them along and presented
them with a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of the membership.
FUNDRAISING
EVENT
Another visit to Our Lady's for the band but this time in aid of a great
cause. Little Alex Connerty's charity night has been sold out for a week
or so now. The venue was packed with around 200 guests, all there to support
Alex and his family. Searchin' played two sets and in between the crowd
were treated to Billy Shine's jokes and singing.
The auction and Raffle were squeezed in between this and the band's second
set. Mike has got the auction bug now...bidding £240 for the signed
LFC shirt (out bid!) while Andy bid £10 for the EFC shirt (obviously
to use as a duster) again, out bid. Alex's dad (John) made a very moving
speech which will have touched all who have kids (and those who don't)
and he left the front of the stage with Sue to a great round of applause.
The sets were again a mixture of songs played over the past few gigs
and the band were in good form.
Steve gave a debut to his new baby (12 string guitar) on Walk In The Room
and Tambourine man. The sound was good and the crowd seemed to enjoy it.
Not the most enthusiastic audience the band has played to but they all
sang or danced to most of the songs.
For the second set the band were joined on stage by a special guest,
young Mike as Andy introduced him (as opposed to old Mike standing stage
left!) he was in fact Alex's brother and he was delighted to play along
to the first few numbers including Needles and Pins, Saturday Night Out
and Searchin'/Runaway. The set was cut a little short due to an over run
of other events but I am sure that didn't spoil the night too much. In
the end, we can all say we were there to support Alex and I am sure that
one day he will get to know all about it. (For photos, click here)
Walk tall with pride.
